What should i consider when configuring in HR mode?

When deploying an instrument in HR mode, the main considerations are:

  • Physical configuration of the instrumenti.e., downward looking shallow or deep water and upward looking, please refer to Acoustic interference: Weak spots and boundary reflections as this is the most important item.
  • For HR mode a minimum blanking distance of 0.1 m is recommended. For the old AquaPro HR 1 MHz this distance increases to 0.4 m. Values between 0.25 m and 0.4 m can still be used, but the data should be looked at carefully.
  • Burst sampling or continuous sampling depends on the project. The main difference with burst sampling is that the user can specify exactly how many individual samples they want to collect in each measurement period, as opposed to averaging over a certain time period.
  • Battery requirement changes dramatically with the setup: number of cells, profile range, average interval, blanking distance, compass update rate and measurement load. The user should always assess by using the Deployment Planning software to have insights and calculations on battery and memory usage. Remember that the software calculates battery consumption based on batteries provided by Nortek. We recommend using Nortek-branded batteries for safe and reliable deployments.
