Connecting to your Signature for the first time

Software and firmware

Nortek regularly releases new and improved firmware and software. Always ensure that you are running the latest versions. The latest versions can always be found on our software and firmware web page.

For an overview of the software applications and firmware used with the Signature, see Software and Firmware for the Signature.

Configuration software

The primary software used to communicate with Signature instruments is Signature Deployment. The software is available free of charge and can be accessed from our software webpage or downloaded directly from the Microsoft Store.

The graphical user interface (GUI) is only available when communicating over Ethernet. When using a serial connection, the built-in terminal is opened instead.

Firmware

The firmware is the internal software that manages the instrument’s functions and communication with external devices. Nortek continuously releases new firmware versions with upgrades and improvements. To ensure optimal operation, you should always make sure that your instrument is running the latest firmware version.

Note that updating the firmware will format the recorder. Please make sure that you have downloaded all recorded data before updating.

Signature instruments are offered in multiple frequency configurations, and each frequency requires a specific firmware variant. Always make sure you install the firmware that corresponds to your instrument’s frequency.

Signature firmware versions can be downloaded from the Nortek software and firmware download page and installed using the Signature Deployment software. When you connect to an instrument running an older firmware version, the software automatically prompt you to update it.

Connecting to the instrument

The primary communication interface for the Signature is Ethernet. To connect the instrument to your computer for the first time, use the supplied Ethernet cable and the external power supply.

For a step-by-step guide to connecting the instrument to your computer, see Establishing a connection. The article includes the required Ethernet power setup, important safety precautions, and instructions for discovering and connecting to the instrument using the software.

Testing the instrument's functionality

After you have received your instrument and established a connection to Signature Deployment software for the first time, we recommend performing a Function test. This allows you to verify the functionality of your instrument and help you familiarize yourself with the available sensors and the data provided by the instrument.

This can be done using the software by starting an online deployment using an appropriate configuration.

A comprehensive guide on how to perform the test can be found here: Function test
