Exchange the batteries on the 2D Horizontal Profiler

1 MHz profiler

Depending on your instrument type, it may be equipped with the functionality to use internal batteries or an external battery canister. Please find below a guide on how to open and replace the batteries.

Opening the instrument

To open the instrument, hold the housing in one hand and unscrew the end bell nut by turning it counterclockwise (Step 1)

Remove the end bell (Step 2), by gently pushing or pulling it straight out of the housing (Do not twist).

Pull out the battery cradle from the housing (Step 3).

Changing the batteries

The Aquadopp 2 can accommodate up to either three alkaline 50Wh, three lithium 165Wh or three rechargeable lithium-ion 75Wh batteries.

Do not mix alkaline and lithium batteries!

Start by connecting the battery harness (female) to the 2-pin connectors (male) that are attached to the battery cradle (Step 4). Then, place the new battery into the cradle (Step 5). Finally, tightly secure the battery in place using the attached strap (Step 6). Repeat for up to three batteries.

Step 6

Closing the instrument

Place the battery cradle back into the housing (Step 7) ensuring that the cradle connector mates with the head connector (Step 8).

The battery cradle only fits one way, and the correct mating is indicated by a visible ring (1 cm) of aluminum (Step 9 & 10).

Gently insert the end bell until it mates with the housing (Step 11).

Gently screw the end bell nut on to the housing by turning it clockwise (Step 12 & 13).

400 kHz profiler

The 400kHz 2D profiler can be operated with an external battery canister, and various options are available from Nortek. Please find below a guide on how to open and install the default 540Wh alkaline battery.

Example single battery canister with its appropriate 2-pin cable and necessary tools

Opening the battery canister

Unscrew and open the endbell using the appropriate Allen key (Step 1). Remove the endbell (Step 2), by gently disconnecting the molex connector. Pull out the old battery from the housing (Step 3). Do not pull on the cables!

Changing the batteries

Many battery options are available from Nortek, and here we're showing the default option, which is a 540Wh 18V battery.

Start by connecting the battery to the 2-pin connectors (Step 4). Then place the new battery into the canister, followed by the foam spacer and desiccant bag (Step 5 & Step 6).

Closing the battery canister

Confirm O-rings are free from dust/particles and not damaged. We recommend replacing and/or greasing them as described in the O-ring care article. This step is crucial, as it ensures that the instrument does not leak! (Step 7)

Place the endbell back on the battery canister, while ensuring that cables are not being pinched.

Make sure the screw openings align,  then gently push until secure, proceed to fitting and tightening the screws (Step 8). See the chapter Securing Screws for details on correct tightening technique and necessary torque.
