How can I change the serial protocol on my Aquadopp 2?

The Aquadopp 2 supports both RS232 and RS422 serial communication protocols. The serial cable provided with the instrument is compatible with both protocols, however, a protocol-specific converter is required. We recommend always using converters supplied by Nortek.

By default, the Aquadopp 2 instruments are delivered with RS422 as the communication protocol.

If you want to use a communication protocol other than the default, you must change it in the Nortek Deployment software. To change the serial communication protocol, follow the procedure below.

  1. Connect via serial to the instrument using the converter that matches the instrument’s current protocol.

  2. In the Nortek Deployment software, enable Advanced Mode (can be enabled under Software), then go to the Maintenance → Serial tab.

  3. From the dropdown menu, select the new protocol you want to use.

  4. Click Set and Disconnect. The instrument will disconnect.

  5. Keep the instrument powered while you change the converter to the one that matches the new protocol.

    • Important: If the instrument is power-cycled before the converter is changed and the instrument is reconnected, the protocol change will not be saved.

  6. Reconnect to the instrument in the software. The new protocol will now be active and saved.

    • Note: You will need to select a new COM port when reconnecting.
