Remove the guide rail harness from the Signature battery housing

This article applies to Signature instruments with a long housing that will be powered by lithium batteries.

Lithium batteries require additional space inside the long housing. Because there is not enough room with the standard guide rail harness installed, the guide rail harness must be removed before installing the batteries.

Follow the procedure below to remove the guide rail harness.

  1. Open the instrument housing as described in the article Exchange batteries on the Signature
  2. Remove the two screws (5) securing the bracket (4) to the housing (1). The numbers in parentheses refer to Figure 1.
  3. Remove the bracket, and carefully slide the guide rail harness (3) out of the housing. The harness is attached to the base plate with set screws (2) and should slide out without significant force.
  4. The rail is secured with an extra set of screws (see Figure 2).
  5. Connect the battery. If the harness still needs to be secured against the side of the housing after the guide rail has been removed, use a strip of duct tape to hold it in place. This also makes future battery installation easier.
