How can I improve the precision of my measurements?
FollowWhen you are configuring your instrument for a deployment, your settings will affect the precision of the measurements. The precision is the theoretically estimated standard deviation of the measurements and is presented in the "Effect" tab on the righthand side of the applicable Deployment Planning software for your instrument. There are several measures you can take to improve the precision (lower the standard deviation), but be aware that these will affect your measurements in other ways.
Measure | Consequence |
Increase the Cell Size | Lower spatial resolution |
Use a longer Average Interval | Higher power consumption and therefore shorter deployment |
Increase the Measurement Load | Higher power consumption and therefore shorter deployment |
All these three measures increase the number of data points that the current estimate is based on, and in that way decreases the standard deviation and gives more precise measurements. Increasing the cell size increases the volume from where the data is collected, while using a longer average interval increases the time period.
