SNR and correlation for QC on Continental adcp data
This posting was originally made on our old, un-monitored forum, so it has been re-posted here
Dear all,
We have a Continental ADCP on a mooring, and we need to go on with quality control procedures of the data.
I have read a lot on the manuals and forum, and everyone is referring to the SNR and the correlation values for that, together with the tilting angle.
But I cannot find the formula to calculate the SNR. If I understand right, we need to use the amplitude (in counts) stored in the .a1 .a2 and .a3 files and convert them to dB, but I cannot find the right formula for that — the same for the correlation.
Regarding the tilt, in the .sen files, we have heading, roll, and pitch. How I can pass from these to the tilt angle
Our Continental is set up on ENU, so no Transformation is needed, I suppose.
Any help is more than welcome.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Zoi, this is a really big question and there is no short answer. My recommendation is to use "Surge" for the data analyses and QA/QC. The program has all the necessary functions for converting amplitude to a useful QA criteria and it also deals with tilt issues. Here is a link: https://www.nortekgroup.com/softwarelicense/surge
