Vector download speed
Hi,
I'm experiencing issues with the speed and stability of data download from Vectors and HR Profiler. Data transfer starts 20-30 kB/s, but keeps dropping stepwise until 2-3 kB/s. After download, a few communication errors reported, probably why the speed is lowered. Not very practical when you're trying to download GB-size files. Aborting and restarting is no option, because there is no resume function. Downloading multiple files (batch) would be nice too.
All our instruments (multiple Vectors, one HR Profielr) behave the same in this. RS422 versions, tested on various desktops and laptops.
Any known cause and fix for this issue?

Hi Marcel,
Thank you for posting to our forum, and I am sorry to hear you have problems with the download speed.
Unfortunately, since the Vector and HR instruments produce a significant amount of data, downloading this over a serial connection will inevitably take long time. This is because of the physical limitation of the communication. To optimize the transfer speed, make sure you are using as short cable as possible, and and increase the baudrate.
You do, however, have the option to split up the data into several files with a smaller size when you download it in the instrument software.
Best regards
Kristin

Hi Kristin,
Thanks for your reply. I'm aware these RS232/RS422 connections are slow compared to modern interfaces. But the theoretical maximum speed is not attained (could be 100+ kB/s at 1.2 Mbaud RS422), but starts around 30 kB/s and keeps dropping during readout, to never go back up again.
I never tried the file splitting option, but would each transfer of a file part start again with max speed?
Is there an option also to retrieve multiple files in one go (batch)?
Cheers,
Marcel
