    Hi Jessica

Thanks for reaching out, and so sorry to hear you have not been able to communicate with the Eco.  There's no "magic" in terms of waking up the Eco, so if it's not responding to none of the three wake-up methods, sounds like there's something fishy going on.

Before we move toward getting the system back to us for a closer look, can you please confirm the following:

    1. When you deployed it, can you confirm if the LED was flashing after you started data collection?  This would only be the case if you set it to start immediately, and not a future date.  And yes, I know it's 2 months ago, so no worries if you can't remember.

    2. When you placed it on the charging plate post-deployment, did the LED turn on?  If so, which color?

    3. How long did you stay with the Eco on the charging plate?

As far as your data is concerned, it's hard to say for sure as we don't know what the failure mode is/was.  However, provided that the Eco was recording data, and that the internal memory's integrity is intact, we should be able to retrieve the data up to the point where it stopped.

    Looking forward to your response.

Hi Dave, thank you for your fast response.

I am happy to report that after leaving the eco on the charging base for ~1hr I was able to successfully wake the device using the NFC scan! It appears that the eco did not have enough "juice" to wake up and needed to charge a little first. At least that's my thinking. What a relief!

    Thanks again!

    Hi Jessica

Glad to hear your Eco is back alive :-)

I concur with your assessment that you had completely run out of juice and so it wouldn't respond.  However, I'd still like to hear if you saw the LED light up when placing it on the charger, as that should have happened, even on a mostly depleted battery, which was your case, so I'd like to understand better the details.  I'm assuming the you can now use any of the three methods to wake up your Eco, right?

I took the liberty at looking at a few other deployments you did with both Eco units on your account and I see that you have let the units run until the battery ran out.  We purposely shut down the instrument when there's 1% charge left, and at least in the deployments that I saw, you were at that stage.  I suppose you were trying to maximize the data return?  In any case, looking at how long the Eco lasted compared to our estimates, you still got about 5-7 days more data than we predicted, which is always nice--we're always very conservative on estimating battery life :-)  But, for optimal battery performance over the life of your Eco, I would suggest the following: 1) always fully charge your Eco (green light on) prior to each deployment, 2) if you need to store your Eco for a long time (several months), try to store with somewhere between 30-70% charge, and 3) avoid fully depleting your Eco's battery by staying within the lifetime guide shown in the Eco App.

Finally, in your last deployment, there's no location data associated with it (likely related to depleted battery, given position is taken at the end of the deployment when the Eco surfaces).  So, you should make sure to adjust that in order to get the most accurate current flow data, especially if you are in an area with noticeable magnetic declination.  See the below FAQ for how to do that.

Hope you have continued success with your Eco!
