How can I measure Infragravity waves with my Signature?

Long Period Waves (including infragravity waves) are surface gravity waves with periods typically ranging from 25 to 250 seconds (0.004–0.04 Hz)  and long wavelengths. Signature instruments can be used to measure these waves by continuously recording both pressure and altimeter data.

The attached document provides a detailed guide on:

  • Configuring the instrument using Signature Deployment (v4.7.29)
  • Processing the recorded data using a Nortek-provided routine

In addition to continuous surface elevation data to estimate infragravity wave measurements, the software also allows for the simultaneous collection of standard wave bursts within the measurement interval. These bursts provide orbital velocity data, complementing the long-period wave observations.

💡 Note: Data processing must be performed manually by the user. While Nortek provides a processing routine, it must be executed independently in your preferred environment.
